How many times must i bash my desk?
Yeah, one of my case fans is making A LOT of noise. It still works but it sounds like im living in a power generation facility.
When i bang on my desk though, the fan shuts up for a good 2-3 minutes. This has worked with every fan i have ever blown. Hmm maybe i should shut down my pc once every few weeks. Oh well. Just wanted to share this little tip for anyone with the same problem. Physical abuse does work sometimes
Just make sure you dont hit it too close to the pc as you could shake loose a capacitor or something. Wouldnt want you to blame me for destroying your pc.

I would make sure it a simple case fan and not the fan on the power supply or the cpu. Make sure you know exactly which fan it is.
If it's cpu, video card fan, or power supply fan, don't risk it failing.

i had this happen on my case fan and i didn't relise they could be so noisey. they are probably the cheapest thing in the case to replace around £10 or less, i suggest rather than risking damage to anything replace it with a new one.

Those vibrations DO travel on the the hard disk...which may cause a premature death
I wouldn't keep doing it for any length of time. Go out and buy a new case fan!

Its my power supply actually. The damn thing vibrates so much that the least of my worries is me banging on the desk. I think im just going to remove the inner ps fan. The ventilation on ps units is overkill. I had an older model ps with only one output fan. This one has the whole induction thing going as if im running a power plant. I live in canada so room temperature is quite acceptable
I havent shut my pc down in two weeks though. I know that if i stop that fan..chances are its not going to start again. Ever hear a completely blown out fan?? Sounds like someone bashed in your doorbell with a sledgehammer.

You may be able to pull the power supply and clean the suspect fan. I would take this opportunity to clean out the inside of you computer and put in a nice 500W Enermax power supply. Careful using compressed air. Preferably a small electronics brush.

Everytime now when I task the Vid Card I can hear it vibrate the case just enough to annoy me. Tapping on the case or squeezing it will stop it for a while. Never happens when I am just using the browser...always when I am in a game.

Im running a 450 ener which is about 2 years old now. I already tried cleaning it but i think the bearings are busted. I clean out my pc quite often..its just that i never turn it off because i run an ftp server. But yeah im definitly going to be upgrading. As of last night it doesnt shut up when i bang on the desk anymore. Lesson 1 : Never buy cheap ISO no name ps units.

Careful with squeezing the case. You dont want your mobo to come in contact with any part of your tower. Thats why the mobo is mounted on those screws (about a half inch away from case). I made the same mistake a few years ago when i had anger issues and punched the side of my pc. Fried my mobo and ram.
